Boiler Repair, Service & Installation in Bergen & Essex, NJ

Steam and hot-water boiler work by people who actually know old radiator systems.

  • Licensed & Insured
  • Same-Day Service
  • No Worries Pricing
  • Family Owned & Operated

Plenty of homes in northern New Jersey still heat with a boiler, whether that is a steam system feeding cast-iron radiators in a pre-war colonial or a hot-water system running baseboard in a mid-century split-level. We repair, maintain, replace and install both, and we know the quirks that come with each.

Boiler work rewards experience, and we have 56 years of industry experience to draw on. We install and service major boiler brands, we are licensed and insured, and our mechanical engineer designs replacement systems around a real heat loss calculation rather than matching whatever size was there before.

Cold Radiators, Banging Pipes Or A Boiler That Will Not Fire

Boiler complaints tend to fall into a few buckets. The boiler will not fire at all, which is usually ignition, a low-water cutoff, a control or a gas supply issue. Some rooms are cold while others cook, which is normally air in the lines, a stuck zone valve, an unbalanced steam system or failing vents. Or the system makes noise, and banging pipes and knocking radiators almost always trace back to trapped condensate, pitch problems or bad venting.

The slow-burn version is pressure. A hot-water boiler that keeps losing pressure has a leak somewhere, and a steam boiler that needs constant refilling is wasting fuel and building scale. Neither fixes itself, and both shorten the life of the boiler.

What Our Boiler Service Includes

On a service call we check the burner and ignition, test the aquastat or pressuretrol, verify the low-water cutoff, inspect the expansion tank and relief valve, check circulators and zone valves, look at water level and pressure, and inspect the flue and draft. On steam systems we also check main and radiator vents, near-boiler piping and pitch, because most steam complaints are venting and piping problems rather than boiler problems.

For replacement we start with the heat loss calculation, then size the boiler to the actual building, not the old nameplate. We handle the near-boiler piping properly, install or update controls, do our own gas and electrical connections, pull the permits and flush or clean the system as needed. Then we balance it, purge the air and confirm every radiator or baseboard loop is heating before we consider the job done.

Signs You May Need Boiler Repair Or Replacement

  • Radiators cold at the top or cold entirely
  • Banging or knocking pipes when heat comes on
  • Boiler pressure keeps dropping or climbing
  • Water pooling around the base of the boiler
  • Having to add water to the system constantly
  • Boiler cycles on and off far more than it used to
  • Visible rust, scale or soot on the boiler body
  • Uneven heat between floors or zones

Our Boiler Service Process

  1. Understand the system

Steam and hot water behave very differently. We identify what you have, how it is piped and zoned, and what the actual complaint is.

  2. Diagnose or measure

For a repair, we test controls, safeties and flow. For a replacement, our engineer calculates heat loss room by room to size the new boiler correctly.

  3. Lay out the options

You get upfront pricing on the repair, or on replacement choices, along with a straight answer on how much life the existing boiler has left.

  4. Perform the work

We repair or install, handle near-boiler piping and controls, do our own gas and electrical connections and pull the required permits.

  5. Balance and verify

We purge air, check every zone or radiator, confirm safe combustion and correct pressure, and show you the controls and shutoffs.

Boilers FAQs

Do you work on old steam systems?

Yes. A lot of pre-war housing in this area runs steam with cast-iron radiators, and it is a system we service regularly. Most steam complaints come down to venting and piping, not the boiler itself.

Why do my pipes bang when the heat turns on?

On steam systems it is usually condensate trapped where it cannot drain, often from radiator pitch or a failed vent. On hot water it is typically trapped air. Both are fixable.

How long does a boiler last?

Well-maintained cast-iron boilers often run decades, while modern high-efficiency units generally have a shorter service life. Condition, water quality and maintenance history matter more than age alone.

What brand of boiler do you install?

We install and service major boiler brands and pick equipment to suit the house and the heat loss calculation, rather than pushing one line on every job.

Do I need a permit to replace a boiler?

Yes, boiler replacement is permitted work in New Jersey municipalities. We pull the permits and handle the inspections as part of the job.
