Heights Plumbing, Heating & Cooling runs video camera inspections of sewer and drain lines for homeowners, buyers and businesses across North Jersey. We push a self-leveling camera through the pipe and record exactly what is down there.
We are family owned and operated, with offices in Fair Lawn and Hillsdale and same-day service available. You watch the footage with the technician, and we point out what we are looking at as we go.

You Should Not Have to Take Anyone's Word for It
Sewer work is the kind of job where the customer cannot see the problem. It all happens underground, the quotes are large, and the explanations can be vague. That is an uncomfortable place to make a decision from.
It comes up most often in two situations: a main line that keeps backing up no matter how many times it gets cleaned, and a house under contract where nobody knows the condition of the lateral. In both cases the camera settles the question in about an hour.
What Our Sewer Video Inspection Includes
We access the line through a cleanout where one exists and feed a waterproof camera down the pipe. On screen you see the pipe material, the joints, any root intrusion, cracks, offsets, scale, low spots holding water, and anything that does not belong in there.
The camera head carries a transmitter, so we can trace the trouble spot from the surface and mark its location and depth in the yard or driveway. If a repair turns out to be necessary, the digging goes where it belongs. We review the footage with you and put the findings in plain language.
When a Camera Inspection Is Worth Doing
- Main line backs up more than once a year
- Buying a home with an older sewer lateral
- Roots returning in the same location
- Sewer smell with no obvious source
- Before paying for a major sewer repair
- After a cleaning, to check the pipe condition
- Planning an addition or patio over the line
- Unknown pipe material in an older house
Noticing any of these? Call (201) 245-7772 or request service online. Same-day appointments across North Jersey.
Our Sewer Camera Inspection Process
Find the access point
We use an existing cleanout whenever possible. If there is not one, we discuss the best access with you before starting.
Run the camera
A self-leveling camera travels the length of the line while we watch the pipe wall, the joints and how the water is flowing.
Locate and mark
When we find a defect, the camera's transmitter lets us pinpoint its location and depth from above ground.
Review the footage with you
We stop on what matters, explain what it means for the pipe, and answer questions while the camera is still in the line.
Recommend a next step
Sometimes that is cleaning or jetting. Sometimes it is repair. Sometimes it is nothing at all, and we will say so.

Sewer Camera Inspection FAQs
How long does an inspection take?
Most residential sewer inspections take about an hour, depending on access and how long the line is.
Do I need a cleanout for this?
An accessible cleanout makes it straightforward. Without one we may need to pull a toilet or find another access point, and we will explain that before we begin.
Can you inspect a line that is completely blocked?
Usually the line has to be cleared first, because a camera cannot see through standing water and debris. In practice we often clear it, then camera it.
Should I get one before buying a house?
If the home is older and the lateral has never been documented, it is worth knowing before closing. That pipe is often the most expensive plumbing component on the property.
Will you tell me if nothing is wrong?
Yes. Plenty of inspections come back showing a pipe in usable condition, and that is a perfectly good result to report.
