When Plunging Stops Working, Something Bigger Is Going On
A one-off clog from too much paper is annoying but simple. A toilet that clogs repeatedly, gurgles when a nearby sink drains, or backs up at the same time as the tub is pointing at the branch drain or the main line, not the fixture.
Older homes across North Jersey often still have cast-iron waste piping. Decades of scale and corrosion narrow the inside of those pipes, so a drain that once handled everything now catches on the smallest obstruction. Low-flow toilets installed on old, flat-graded branch lines make it worse.
What Our Clogged Toilet Repair Includes
We start at the fixture, clearing the blockage with the right tool for the situation, usually a closet auger that clears the trap without scratching the porcelain. If the toilet clears and drains normally, we test it repeatedly to make sure it is genuinely fixed.
If it does not clear, or it clogs again, we look further: the branch drain, the vent, and the main line. We can run a camera to see what is actually inside the pipe. We also inspect the flapper, fill valve, flush valve and the wax ring, since weak flush volume and a rocking toilet cause repeat problems too.
Signs Your Toilet Problem Needs a Plumber
- Toilet clogs more than once a month
- Water rises to the rim before draining slowly
- Gurgling from the tub or sink when you flush
- Sewage odor in the bathroom
- Toilet rocks or the floor feels soft
- Water seeping at the base after a flush
- Weak flush that will not clear the bowl
- Two or more fixtures backing up together

Our Clogged Toilet Repair Process
Assess the fixture
We check the bowl, tank parts and flush volume, and ask whether other drains in the house are acting up.
Clear the blockage
We use a closet auger or the appropriate tool to clear the trap and branch without damaging the porcelain or the pipe.
Test thoroughly
We flush repeatedly and run nearby fixtures to confirm the line drains properly and the problem was actually at the toilet.
Look deeper if needed
If the clog returns or other fixtures are affected, we recommend a camera inspection of the branch or main line.
Repair or replace
We replace worn internal parts, reset the toilet with a new wax ring and bolts, or install a new fixture if the old one is cracked or chronically weak.
Toilet Services We Offer
Clog clearing
Auger and drain machine service to clear blockages at the fixture, the branch line or beyond.

Pulling and resetting a rocking or leaking toilet with a new seal, flange repair if needed, and new closet bolts.
Toilet replacement
Removal and disposal of the old fixture and installation of a new toilet, including comfort-height and higher-performance flush models.

Clogged Toilets FAQs
Why does my toilet keep clogging?
Common causes are a weak flush, a partially blocked branch drain, a venting problem, or scale buildup inside older cast-iron waste piping. Repeat clogs almost always mean the issue is past the bowl.
Are chemical drain cleaners safe for toilets?
We do not recommend them. They rarely clear a solid blockage, they can damage older pipes and seals, and they make the job hazardous for whoever opens the line afterward.
Should I repair or replace an old toilet?
If the tank parts are worn but the fixture is sound, a rebuild is usually the better value. If the bowl is cracked, the flush has never been adequate, or it clogs constantly, replacement makes more sense.
My toilet gurgles when the washing machine drains. Why?
That usually means air is being pulled through the toilet trap because the drain or vent is partially blocked. It is a main-line symptom and worth investigating before it becomes a backup.
Can you come out today?
