Heights Plumbing, Heating & Cooling installs and services whole-home air cleaners, purifiers and high-capacity filtration systems for homes throughout Northern New Jersey. These systems attach to your existing ductwork and treat the air in every room the furnace or air conditioner serves, rather than one room at a time.
We size and select equipment based on your actual system and ductwork — because a filter your blower cannot pull air through does more harm than good. Our team includes a mechanical engineer for airflow design and an electrical engineer for the wiring, and every job comes with upfront pricing.
Dust, Allergies and That Stale Closed-Up Feeling
Homes here spend much of the year sealed up — closed against humidity in summer and cold in winter. That is good for energy bills and hard on indoor air. Dust settles back on furniture days after cleaning, pet dander and pollen recirculate, cooking odors linger, and people who feel fine outdoors wake up congested.
Portable purifiers help in the one room they sit in, and a standard throwaway filter is designed mainly to protect the equipment, not the people. Neither addresses air that is being pulled through the whole house every time the system runs. A whole-home air cleaner works on that air, on every cycle, in every room served by the ducts.
What Our Air Cleaner & Filtration Service Includes
We start with your system, not a catalog. We look at the air handler or furnace, the filter arrangement, the return duct size and available cabinet space, and we measure static pressure to see how much filtration the blower can handle. Then we recommend equipment that fits that reality — sometimes that is a high-capacity media cabinet, sometimes an electronic air cleaner, sometimes a UV or polarized system depending on what you are trying to solve.
Installation usually means cutting in a filter cabinet at the return side of the air handler, sealing the connections, and wiring any powered component ourselves. Afterward we re-measure airflow to confirm the system still moves what it needs to, show you the replacement schedule and part number, and set the maintenance interval. We also service existing air cleaners, including equipment installed by other companies.
Signs Your Home Could Use Better Air Filtration
- Dust returns within days of cleaning
- Allergy symptoms are worse indoors than outside
- Pets and visible dander throughout the house
- Cooking or pet odors that linger for hours
- Visible dust streaking around supply registers
- A musty smell when the system first starts
- Someone in the house has asthma or respiratory sensitivity
- Recent renovation or construction dust in the ducts

Our Air Filtration Installation Process
Understand the concern
Dust, allergies, odors and germs are different problems with different solutions. We ask what you are actually trying to fix.
Evaluate the system
We check the air handler, return duct size and available space, and measure static pressure so we recommend filtration your blower can handle.
Recommend and price
You get a specific recommendation with what it will and will not do, at a firm price, with Synchrony financing available on larger jobs.
Install and wire
We cut in and seal the cabinet, mount the equipment, and handle any electrical connections with our own team.
Verify and set the schedule
We re-measure airflow to confirm nothing is restricted, then give you the replacement part numbers and the interval to change or clean them.
Air Cleaning Options We Offer
High-capacity media air cleaners
A 4- or 5-inch filter cabinet at the return that captures far more than a 1-inch filter, with less airflow restriction and only one or two changes a year.
Electronic air cleaners
These charge particles so they collect on washable cells. Effective on fine dust and smoke, with cells that need periodic cleaning rather than replacement.
UV germicidal lamps
Mounted at the evaporator coil, UV light helps keep biological growth off the coil and drain pan — which also addresses the musty startup smell.
Ventilating and fresh air solutions
For tightly sealed homes where stale air is the complaint, controlled fresh air intake does what a filter cannot. We evaluate whether it fits your setup.
Filter cabinet retrofits
Many systems have no good place for a real filter. We add a properly sized, sealed cabinet so filtration works instead of letting air bypass around the edges.
Service for existing equipment
Cell cleaning, lamp replacement, media changes and diagnosis on air cleaners already in your home, whoever installed them.

Air Cleaners & Purifiers FAQs
Is a whole-home air cleaner better than a portable purifier?
For the whole house, yes, because it treats all the air moving through the duct system rather than the air in one room. A portable unit can still be a sensible addition in a bedroom, but it will not change conditions elsewhere in the home.
Will a better filter strain my system?
It can if it is chosen badly. Cramming a very high-MERV filter into a 1-inch slot restricts airflow. A properly sized media cabinet gives you better filtration with less restriction, which is why we measure static pressure before recommending anything.
Do air cleaners help with allergies?
Better filtration reduces airborne pollen, dander and dust circulating through the home, and many people notice a difference. We will not promise a medical outcome — we will explain what a given system captures and let you weigh it.
How often does the media or cell need service?
Media filters in a 4- or 5-inch cabinet typically last six months to a year. Electronic air cleaner cells need washing every few months. UV lamps are generally replaced annually. We write the schedule down for you.
Does an air cleaner run only when the system runs?
Filtration only works when air is moving, so it operates when the blower runs. Many thermostats have a circulate or fan mode that runs the blower periodically, which spreads the benefit through the day without running heating or cooling.
Can you install this on any furnace or air handler?
Nearly always, though the approach depends on the equipment and the space around it. Tight utility closets in North Jersey homes sometimes need a creative cabinet location, and we work that out during the visit.
