Heights Plumbing, Heating & Cooling repairs, seals, modifies and installs ductwork in homes across Northern New Jersey. Ducts are the part of the system nobody sees, and in older housing stock they are frequently the reason a perfectly good furnace or air conditioner cannot keep certain rooms comfortable.

Our mechanical engineer handles duct design and airflow calculations, so changes are based on what the system actually needs to move rather than on where a run happens to fit. Family owned and operated, licensed and insured, with upfront pricing before any work starts.

One Room Is Always Wrong — and It Is Usually the Ducts

Northern New Jersey homes make this a common complaint. Split-levels have a wing that runs hot in summer and cold in winter. Colonials have a second floor the system never quite reaches. Capes have a finished upstairs fed by one undersized run. Finished basements have returns that were never added at all.

Behind those symptoms are usually the same handful of problems: duct joints that have come apart or were never sealed, flex duct that is crushed or sagging, runs that are too small for the rooms they serve, missing or blocked return paths, and uninsulated duct passing through a hot attic or an unconditioned crawlspace. Sealing and correcting those is often a bigger comfort improvement than new equipment would be.

What Our Ductwork Service Includes

We start by finding out what the duct system is actually doing. That means measuring static pressure at the air handler, checking airflow at the problem registers, tracing the runs where they are accessible, and looking specifically at the return side, which is undersized far more often than the supply side. We look for disconnected joints, crushed flex, sharp transitions, missing insulation and register locations that fight the room.

Repairs range from small to substantial. We seal joints with mastic and proper tape rather than the cloth duct tape that dries out and falls off, re-support sagging flex runs, insulate duct in unconditioned space, replace crushed or undersized sections, add return paths, and install dampers so the system can be balanced. For additions, finished attics and basements, or homes converting from another heat source, we design and install new duct runs sized to the load of the rooms they serve.

Signs Your Ductwork Needs Attention

  • Some rooms never reach the set temperature
  • Weak airflow at the registers farthest from the unit
  • Rooms that are hot in summer and cold in winter
  • Visible gaps, tape hanging loose or disconnected joints
  • Heating and cooling bills higher than similar homes
  • Excess dust returning right after you clean
  • Whistling or booming noises when the blower starts
  • Flex duct sagging or crushed in the attic or crawlspace

Our Ductwork Repair Process

  1. Assess the whole system

We measure static pressure and register airflow and inspect accessible runs so we understand why the air is not getting where you want it.

  2. Design the fix

Our engineer sizes any new or replacement runs to the actual room loads and identifies whether the return side needs to be opened up.

  3. Scope and price it clearly

You get a specific plan and a firm price. Duct work is easy to overpromise on, so we describe what each step will and will not change.

  4. Perform the work

Sealing, insulating, re-supporting, replacing sections, adding returns and dampers, and installing new runs with proper transitions and fittings.

  5. Balance and verify

We re-measure airflow at the registers, adjust dampers to balance the system, and confirm the problem rooms actually improved.

Ductwork Services We Offer

Duct sealing

Sealing leaking joints, seams and boots with mastic so conditioned air reaches the rooms instead of the attic or crawlspace.

Duct repair and replacement

Reconnecting separated joints, replacing crushed or deteriorated flex and damaged sheet metal, and re-supporting sagging runs.

Duct insulation

Insulating supply and return runs that pass through unconditioned attics, garages and crawlspaces, where losses are highest.

New duct design and installation

Engineered layouts for additions, finished attics and basements, and whole-home systems in houses that never had ducts.

Return air improvements

Adding or enlarging returns, which is frequently the fix for a noisy blower, a restricted system and rooms that stay stuffy behind closed doors.

Zoning and balancing

Dampers and zone controls so an upstairs and a downstairs, or a sunny wing and a shaded one, can be conditioned independently.

Ductwork FAQs

How much air am I actually losing through leaky ducts?

In homes with older, unsealed duct it is common to lose a meaningful share of the conditioned air before it reaches the registers, particularly when runs pass through an attic. The exact amount varies by house, which is why we measure rather than quote a generic figure.

Is duct sealing the same as duct cleaning?

No. Sealing closes leaks so air goes where it should — a performance and energy issue. Cleaning removes accumulated dust from inside the duct — an air quality issue. They solve different problems and we will tell you which one your system needs.

Can you add ductwork to a house that never had it?

Often, yes, though it depends on the layout. Homes with usable attic, basement or closet chases are good candidates. Where running duct would mean losing ceiling height or closets, a ductless mini split system is usually the better answer, and we will say so.

Will fixing my ducts really make the upstairs cooler?

It frequently does, especially when the upstairs is fed by long uninsulated runs through a hot attic or has no dedicated return. We measure first so we can tell you what to realistically expect before you commit to the work.

Do you handle ductwork for both heating and cooling?

Yes. The same duct system serves both, so any correction we make improves comfort in a North Jersey winter as well as in the summer.
